Tuesday evening we drove home from the city through a raging blizzard, and Wednesday morning we woke up to this:
So t! told the office he would be working from home, and I went to find my snowshoes. It was a beautiful, windy, wild winter’s day – on the 29th of October! I snowshoed along the eastern fence line, looking for deer or rabbit tracks (the eastern fenceline is where I’m planning to set my snowshoe hare traps this winter) but found none. I guess all the bunnies were still hiding from the weather. I did see some tracks that I assume to be coyote, over by Mike’s big pond. There were no geese on the pond. I wonder where they rode out the storm? Many of them left before it, Fearsclave saw unusually large numbers of geese in the sky before the storm hit. But there were a whole bunch landing on the pond again by this afternoon.
Here’s what the eastern fenceline looked like at 8:30 yesterday morning:
It warmed up quite a bit today, and was gorgeous and sunny. I went out snowshoeing again first thing this morning. Still no rabbit tracks. The snow is starting to melt in the fields.
I’m quite glad it didn’t all melt right away and I got to enjoy the sun today. The house is so wonderfully bright with the snow reflecting the sun through the windows. I’m actually now actively looking forward to being here through the winter!
So gorgeous! Yes, all that snow would reflect sunlight through your huge windows, wouldn’t it? Lovely.
